Petra

A visit to Jordan means a visit to Petra. It’s the historical city of the Nabataeans and nowadays also one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World.

At the entrance there are offers for a horse ride through the narrow gap, the Siq, to the Treasury of Petra. The Treasury is one of the most iconic buildings of the sight which is displayed already on many pictures. The best advice is just to walk through the Siq. Because then you can skip the bargaining but also the Siq offers many colourful rocks and formations which you miss if you go by horse.

There are many other impressive ruins and the second highlight is the Monastery which can be reached after an intensive hike of about 30 – 45 minutes. The hike means that you’ve to walk 800 stairs each way. The other option is going by donkey next to the cliffs. The first option is the best on if you want to have the fate in your own hands.

Little Petra

Besides Petra there are also the ruins of Little Peta. These ruins are next to a Bedouin village and the ruins of Petra. A short stop is worth before continuation of the trip to Wadi Rum.
