Amman

In Amman a visit to the King Abdullah Mosque is a good start because this is in Jordan the only mosque which can be entered by non-muslims. A visit early in the morning gives the possibility to enjoy the building and its decorations without all other tourists. It’s a huge and modern building which is 31 meters in height, has a dome which 35 meters in section and every day 3.000 Muslims pray five times a day in the direction of Mecca.

Next sight to visit in Amman is the citadel. The Citadel is located on a mountain and offers a beautiful panoramic view over Amman. On the mountain there’re remnants of old civilizations like the Temple of Hercules, Al-Qaser and a Byzantine church. Apart from the ruins, there’s the Jordan Archaeological Museum. A small building but the museum gives a good insight into the objects which are found in the area.

A third stop is the Roman Theatre in the city which offers a view on the citadel. With an organised trip or your own transport on the same day, a visit can be made to the ruins in Jerash. With public transport that might be harder to combine.
