A day tour which is offered in quite a lot of places but attracts much fewer visitors is a full day to Salar de Tara. During the stay in San Pedro de Atacama, it’s advisable to participate in this trip on one of your last days. This because the highest parts during the excursion are just over 4.800 meters and the whole day you’re not lower than about 4.300 meters at the lake in Salar de Tara. The biggest difference compared to other excursion is that in this national park are no roads so vehicles have to drive through the desert, which makes this tour also special. It’s a little bit like the Dakar Rally.
Like at the other places in northern Chile hikes here are also so easy, only you’ve to take care because of the altitude.
