National Park Lauca and Putre
From Arica, it’s possible to book an excursion to National Park Lauca and Putre. Putre is on 3.500 meters and National Park Lauca is on 4.500 meters altitude. Arica is at sea level so to do this excursion it’s better first visit Bolivia which I did because then it’s safe to do this excursion. Otherwise you can get very sick because of the difference in altitude and pressure.
Before entering National Park Lauca a short visit will be made to the Petroglyphs just outside Arica and the Quebrada the Cardones. In National Park Lauca it’s possible to see wildlife like vicunas. At Lago Chungara the highest point of the excursion at 4.500 meters a very easy hike can be made. During this walk, there’s a beautiful panoramic view of the Lago Chungara. On the way back with the excursion, a stop is made in the small village of Putre. First to have lunch but also to walk a little in the small village. To be honest the surrounding area is more impressive than the village.
