Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro is one of the most well-known Brazilian cities. It is not the capital which is Brasilia, but the place which offers endless possibilities.

The city has different neighbourhoods which have all their own atmosphere and can be explored independently. For example, there is Santa Teresa which has the feeling of a village in some places. Lapa offers more landmark sights like Escadaria Selarón, stairs which connect Lapa to Santa Teresa or Carioca Aquaduct. In the evening you can go out like for example to a street festival which I did. Like other Brazilian cities, it pays off to have two cameras with you, an SLR for the inside attractions and a compact camera during the exploration of the city. Because safety might be an issue. Because at some places the big villas are next to a favela. During the day it is in the places mentioned above and in the city centre fine to walk. When it’s getting dark you should take a taxi because otherwise, you’re walking lonely at places with risk of mugging.
