Ouro Preto

Ouro Preto is a former colonial mining town which is located in the state of Minas Gerais. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site because of its well-maintained colonial architecture. When you walk around the city it gives a feeling that you back in time.

The city is well-connected with Belo Horizonte by public transport but is too far as a day trip. To stay overnight is recommended and the historical centre offers plenty of cheap accommodations.

The best way to explore Ouro Preto is on foot but prepare yourself for some steep roads. So it feels sometimes like hiking in the old city.
