Belo Horizonte
Belo Horizonte is an ordinary big city in Brazil. It has an airport and is well-connected with Manaus. After Belo Horizonte, I have visited São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. These two huge Brazilian cities are enough because safety outside of them is much better. Belo Horizonte has some attractions nearby.
For day tours, there are two good options. The first one is the Inhotim. This museum offers contemporary art and an outdoor museum. It is one of the largest in Latin America. It is diverse and a perfect place to spend your day even if you’re no too much in art. Part of this museum is a botanical garden. Inhotim can be reached by bus from Belo Horizonte.
The second option is Gruta de Maquiné. This one of the most famous and most visited caves in Brazil. Like Inhotim this can be reached by bus. only the way back you’ll have to wait some hours for your bus back. So bring a book and enjoy a very good lunch at the nearby restaurant.
When you want to stay overnight in a colonial town, Our Preto is a good option.
