San Carlos
This city is located about six hours by bus from Managua. It can be reached by small plane from Isla Ometepe once/ twice a week. Otherwise you’ll have to go around the whole Lake Nicaragua from Isla Ometepe. This will take with all transfers and waiting for about 12 hours.
San Carlos has not much to offer so one night is enough to go to El Castillo and Islas Solentiname. There are a small fortress and a market. This place is mainly a transfer place and the place to get cash for El Castillo and Islas Solentiname. From San Carlos, it is possible to go to La Fortuna in Costa Rica by public transport and private shuttle.
