Caye Caulker

Departure for a visit to Caye Caulker is from the harbour of Belize City. The city itself is not impressive so not much time is needed. From the harbour speedboats with 600 horsepower engines transport tourists to the islands offshore like Caye Caulker which is about 30 km from Belize City. On the island, there’s a small village, some beaches, and restaurants. In short the ideal spot to relax and a place where you can’t make too many plans.

There are many opportunities to snorkel offshore in Caye Caulker. One of the highlights is a trip to open water where you can snorkel between coral reefs, sharks, rays, and turtles. This is not an advertisement from a travel guide because there are many big fishes including sharks. Swimming is not dangerous and this is definitely a trip to book. For my in aspects of snorkelling a close second next to my scuba dive at the Great Barrier Reef.

In Belize is one of the recommended specialities lobster. For an affordable price of approximately EUR 12,- (price 2008) people can order lobster in different varieties. The Caribean islands offer also drinks which ware made with rum like rum punch. Really refreshing with warm weather but a dangerous drink. For me, no problems worth to mention but other people enjoyed it too much.

Conclusion Belize is an ideal holiday destination to relax. Surely an island like Caye Caulker. Next to that a place with amazing fish, seafood and sea life.
