Bled

One of the most famous destinations in Slovenia is Lake Bled. The village is situated about 60 kilometres from Ljubljana and is well-connected by public transport. A bus trip will take between 1 and 1,5 hours one way from the Slovenian capital, so a day trip is possible. But better stay overnight to enjoy the lake and its surrounding areas.

A tour around Lake Bled is about 6 kilometres and it is a very easy walk which offers beautiful views of the island and the church in the centre of the lake. The southern part of the lake offers the best views of the lake and especially in the afternoon. In the morning your best bet is a visit to Bled castle. It is a steep but rewarding walk. The castle itself is small and offers a museum. The entrance fee of EUR 13,- (2021) is quite a lot but still reasonable. The entrance fee of the church on the island and its museum of EUR 12,- is in my opinion far too much. The boat trip to the island with an electric boat EUR 12,- is acceptable.

Outside Bled a must-see attraction is the Vintar Gorge. With its green water, there is a 1,6 kilometres easy walk which offers surrealistic views. From Bled you can walk to the Vintar Gorge which is about 4 kilometres to the entrance or book a two-way transfer which will set you back EUR 10,-. Especially with hot weather, this is recommended because the way o the gorge offers not a lot of shade.
