Lisbon

Lisbon is Portugal’s capital and a city that is worth a city trip on its own. You can easily enjoy a couple of days inside the old city centre and walk around in the neighborhoods like Alfama with its famous tramline 28 and the castle, Castelo de São Jorge. On the other side of the centre, is Bairro Alto. Which can be visited foot, by tram, or with the elevator, Elevador Santa Justa. Both neighborhoods offer panoramic views of the city centre.

Downton Lisbon is one of the most well-known squares, Praço de Coméricio. This comes with Arco da Rua Augusta, which is a huge arch. In addition to the neighborhoods, squares, and the castle Lisbon offers plenty of old historic buildings with churches and museums.

It is well-connect with the neighborhood Belém but a day tour to the castles of Sintra is also an option in case you want to escape the city.

Slightly outside the centre and still part of Lisbon is the historic Belém. Here you can visit the famous Tower of Belém or the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. To visit those sites your best option is to take the tram from downtown Lisbon. A walk from downtown Lisbon to Belém will take you about 1,5 – 2 hours at least I can say by my own experience. Other options in Belém are Padrão dos Descobrimentos and the Jardim Botânico de Ajuda.

Belém is the birthplace of the famous Pastéis de Belém which are called in the rest of Portugal Pastel de Nata.
