Faro has a small old town which is worth walking around. But there is also an option to enjoy the nearby beaches or nature. For nature, you can take a cruise in the Ria Formosa Natural Park which is situated next to Faro. Cruises are offered next to the old town. When you don’t want to make cruises a trip by bicycle or a hike are options. In this park, there are options for bird watching too.
A day tour to the old village Tavira is easy to arrange by yourself. Take an early train because they roughly depart every couple of hours. Apart from these limits in your train schedule, you can make your own plans over there.
