Zugdidi (Georgia)
Things to do in Zugdidi
Zugdidi is a nice stopover for one night before the continuation of the journey to Mestia. It has a clear small centre and lacks tourists. There were only quite a lot of soldiers because of the short distance to Abkhazia. A night on the way back from Mestia is also an option because then there’s a chance to visit with a driver Nokalakevi fortress, Martvili Monastery, and the nearby canyon.
A big difference with the rest of Georgia is that the province of Samegrelo offers more local people and cattle as a part of the traffic. The climate is more subtropical which gives in the summer a high humidity which can be exhausting.
Connections
Zugdidi is well-connected with Kutaisi and Mestia. From Zugdidi, it is possible to go to Tbilisi too which has connections to other interesting places for a visit.
