Zagreb

The Croatian capital is Zagreb, which is located in the north of the country. It is by far the largest city in the country with about 800.000 inhabitants but has fewer tourists than for example Split or Dubrovnik. The city offers a nice old city centre to walk around and many cafés and restaurants. It has a good train and bus connection with Ljublijana in Slovenia. In high season here it’s easy to find affordable accommodation and you can visit museums and some churches. During my visit in 2021 churches were partly closed because of renovation works after the earthquake the year before. Recommendable is to take from Zagreb the scenic train journey to Split. This 420 km journey lasts about 6,5 hours and offers many different landscapes during the ride.
