Split

Split is after Zagreb Croatia second-largest city and offers apart from the old city centre plenty of possibilities for excursions. During my visit, I have stayed five nights in Hostel Dvor near the old town. It was clean, comfortable and the most pleasant stay I had in Croatia.

In Split there a different sights worth visiting. These are the Diocletian’s Palace, The Saint Domnius Bell Tower, The Split City museum and the catacombs. Apart from these main sights, the historic centre with its narrow streets and the boulevard are just enjoyable to walk around. Compared to for example Dubrovnik, Split feels less packed with tourists.

In case you want to escape the city you can go to Krka National Park, The Blue Lagoon and Trogir, and Hvar Island for example.

The city is well-connected by public bus to Zadar or by ferry to Dubrovnik.

Just 20 minutes away from the city centre of Split, in the suburb Solin, are the Roman ruins of Salona. This area offers a small museum and ruins which are spread outdoor in an archaeological park. To get there you have to take public bus number 1 from downtown Split.
