Dubrovnik

The old town of Dubrovnik. That is the famous attraction which this Croatian city has to offer. But be prepared in high season there a lot of other tourists. Lots of Dutch tourists, which have the opinion that Italy is too expensive and Bosnia Herzegovina and, Montenegro and Serbia too exotic. Or fans of the television series Games of Thrones which is a cash cow in the Croatian way.

Compared to other parts of Croatia, Dubrovnik is really expensive. For example, there’s a possibility to walk on the old city wall for “just” EUR 13,- and this ticket can be expanded with some extra features. Walking in the old town is luckily still free and gives a good impression and fantastic views. Food like a pizza and a drink are already Western European prices. Hostels as well, inside the old town a dorm bed for EUR 65,- outside the old town for “just” EUR 34,- a night (prices in 2015).

An alternative for a visit to the old town is a trip by cable car to the top of the mountain which gives a nice view over Dubrovnik. Like with other attractions it’s the same here: it looks like the Riviera instead of Eastern Europe. Eur 15,- for a trip with a cable car for 5 minutes is very well paid.

Conclusion Dubrovnik is a beautiful but expensive city. Split has about the same to offer and is less crowded.
