Things to do in Tatev
In Tatev one of Armenia’s most famous monasteries is located. You can reach this monastery by cable car from the village of Halidzor. Tatev is located about 25 kilometres from Goris. Halidzor is on your way to Tatev and for the cable car, you can purchase a one-way ticket. On the way back from Tatev a hike can be made at the Devil’s Bridge which is located in Tatev’s valley. This hike was for me too difficult and risky. Next to this bride are some caves. You will have to climb down with a rope on an almost vertical slope which is about 10 metres to visit those caves. I had to skip this because when you are afraid of heights this is just not your hike.
When you have your own transport or are lucky with hitchhiking, you can continue to the ruins of Sisian on the same day.
Connections
You can reach Tatev from Goris on a day tour. During my visit in 2022 bus connections were quite limited. Other transport options are a taxi, your own rental car, or hitchhiking. The latter is possible because there are only a couple of crossings to reach the cable car in Halidzor. The road network in the area is limited.
