Sarande

The coastal town Sarande is a place for a beach visitor and offers for Albanian standards a modern boulevard. For someone who likes to experience the local culture and nature in Albania, it’s just a place to stay overnight. Or if preferred a place to enjoy the nightlife.

From Sarande there’s a possibility to visit the archaeological and historical park Butrint by a local bus. The trip by bus is only about 45 minutes. Butrint offers historical ruins and is a beautiful and tranquil place to walk around in the forest and admire the ruins. During a hot summer day there’s enough shade because of all the trees in the park.

After a visit to Butrint it’s possible to go to northern Albania, for example Shkoder with one day from Sarande. There’re two options the quick route and the beautiful and slower option. The beautiful and slower option runs next to the Albanian coast and through the mountains. This option departs early in the morning and a change of buses is needed in Tirana. But this long journey offers overwhelming panoramic views.
