Things to do in Hong Kong
Hong Kong is an excellent place to end a trip in Asia because everything is modern and well-organized. Food is delicious and public transport is well connected to the main tourist attractions. Hong Kong is not only a city but the region offers also beautiful mountains and nature where you can hike.
A good way to start your visit is a cruise in Victoria Habor which offers a good view of the skyline. At night you can take a cruise as well or just walk the boulevard at Kowloon to enjoy the view of the skyscrapers on Hong Kong Island. Hong Kong offers apart from that a lot of shops, good restaurants, and markets. The most famous one to visit is the Temple Street Night Market in Kowloon.
On Hong Kong Island there are the city’s highest buildings and between them, you’ll find sometimes old colonial buildings and one of these examples is the Old Supreme Court building where old meets new architecture. On Hong Kong Island there is also a possibility to have a panoramic view of the whole city from Victoria Peak but the weather should be clear then.
If you want to leave the busy city centre Lantau Island is a good option to consider. You can hike there, visit a temple, a Buddha statue and a traditional fishing village. Especially the last one is really worth doing because you’ll experience a totally different Hong Kong. It gives more the feeling of being in South East Asia.
The best way to go to Lantau is by metro and by cable car. The ride lasts about 20 minutes one way and will cost you for a return trip about EUR 23,- (price 2016).
Connections
Hong Kong is well connected with Guangzhou (China) or Macau. To Guanzhou you can take a train and to Macau to Turbojet, which is a fast ferry.
