In 2014 I’ve made a trip of 22 days in Japan by high-speed trains. Everything organized by myself and the best advice is to do the same. Because organized trips to Japan are very expensive compared to your own trip. Public transport is possible to the important sights. It is convenient and reliable and fast. Only a taxi you should avoid because, this will cost one way about EUR 200,- from Tokyo airport to the centre. Food is much cheaper than in Western Europe if you eat local Asian dishes.
