Things to do in Garni and Geghard
Garni and Geghard are both places that you can visit on a day trip from Yerevan. There are in Garni, an ancient Roman temple and panoramic views of the surrounding nature. From the temple complex, you can hike down into the valley in about 30 – 45 minutes and visit the Symphony of Stones. This is a natural monument with huge basalt columns. These were formed in ancient times by the cooling of volcanic lava.
In Geghard you can visit a monastery complex. As a difference from the other monasteries in Armenia, this one has a big part hidden in caves.
Connections
You can reach Garni from Yerevan on a day tour. The duration of the trip from Armenia’s capital is about 30 minutes by public bus. From Garni, you need to take a taxi or hitchhike to get to Gehard.
