Things to do in Takayama and Shirakawago
It is enough to stay in Takayama for one night. On your day you arrive by bus it’s possible to take in the afternoon a bus to the traditional village Shirakawago. The village is less than an hour by bus from Takayama. Only be prepared the bus ticket is not included in the Japan Rail Pass. In 2014 a two-way ticket was about EUR 34,-. In Shirakawago there’s not an entrance fee anymore.
If you stay in the spring in Takayama you can experience the Spring Festival in the village.
Connections
Takayama is connected by bus to Matsumoto or by train to Nagoya and from there you can continue to Kyoto or Osaka for example.
