A stay in northern Albania isn’t complete without a visit to Theth. Because of the rough road one night to stay is a minimum. The distance from Shkoder to Theth is about 75 kilometres but takes about 4 hours by 4×4 Jeep. This should become much better because in 2013 they’ve started to construct a sealed road. A long journey finally brings tourists to the peaceful village of Theth were the local people have started their own guesthouses. For the amount of EUR 20 each night including decent meals it’s very cheap to stay in Theth. Peaceful as long they don’t practice the traditions of the Kanun. One of the traditions in the Kanun is blood feud which is still present in this region in 2013. In Theht there’s a locked tower for people to hide when there’s blood feud against them. Apart from the tower, the area offers beautiful scenery which is inviting to make a hike in the mountains.
