About 2 – 2,5 hours by bus north of Quito the city of Otavalo is situated. The city is well known for one of the biggest handicraft market. It’s one of the places to buy your souvenirs in Ecuador. It looked, in my opinion, a little better quality and there are more different items on offer than for example in Quito. But you have to bargain at some places quite a lot for Latin American standards. So the best advice is just to walk around first, ask and decide later or at least not at the first shop. The price difference at the same market for some beautiful scarves was around 50%. Most expensive ones are USD 20 (bad offer). A good offer two for USD 15, which were the same scarves.
