Quito is the most common point to start or end your trip to Ecuador at 2.800 meters altitude. Beautiful with the old colonial centre, near to the mountains and sights a short distance away. It’s also a long city so be prepared that you might to take a taxi to the bus terminal which is a long way outside the city centre. There are many places to stay for tourists. The old colonial centre is nice during the day but sketchy and quiet during the evening. Another option is La Mariscal and to stay near Plaza Foch. Around there are a lot of more upscale restaurants and it’s the nightlife area. A good thing is there’s a lot of police during the evening that when your accommodation around two blocks around Plaza Foch you can also walk
Apart from the colonial centre and La Mariscal, Quito offers some beautiful views. One is the Teleferico which offers from more than 4.000 meters altitude panoramic views over Quito. The second option is the view from El Panecillo which is in my option the best view over the old colonial city centre.
