Cork

Cork is Ireland’s second-largest city and offers nearby plenty of day excursions. In Cork’s old city centre highlights are the English Market During and St. Anne’s church and Shandon Bells. Apart from this, there are good restaurants and accommodation. In general, they are cheap for Irish standards especially compared to Dublin for example.

Just outside Cork you can visit Jamerson Distillery Midleton. From the city centre, a public bus departs which stops in front of the distillery. Inside the distillery, guided tours are given and at the end, you can taste different whiskeys and compare the taste. During my visit, an Irish, Scottish and American one were served.

In case you want to visit some nature around Cork, a car might be handy but is not essential. There are bus tours for example for the Ring of Kerry and to Dingle Peninsula. Another option is to take a train to the historic port town Cobh.

All those options mean that a stay of four nights in Cork is required, especially in the situation you don’t have your own transportation.
