Postojna is between 1 and 1,5 hours, depending on the public bus you take, from Ljubljana. This place offers the famous Postojna Caves which are a famous tourist attraction in Slovenia and should be definitely on your list. Tickets should be booked in advance for a time slot of your visit. The reason is that a train journey is included in your trip because of the size of these karst caves. In addition, you can book some exhibitions which are located in the same place. I didn’t book those ones but instead, I combined my visit to the caves with nearby Predjama Castle. This castle from the Middle Ages has been built inside a cave.
In high season, August when I was there, a free shuttle connects Postojna Caves with Predjama Castle. Every hour there is a shuttle and the journey one way is about 20 minutes. Own transport or a taxi is not necessary when you want to visit both places in one day.
