Belgrade
The old city of Belgrade is quite modern compared to some other cities in Eastern Europe. There a couple of historical buildings like the citadel which offers a panoramic view over the Sava river. The centre has many shops which can compete with an ordinary Western European city. For European standards the restaurants offer delicious meals for an acceptable price. Apart from walking, a boat trip on the Sava river a visit to the Nikola Tesla Museum is an absolute must. Nikola Tesla was one of the most important inventors and physicists.
The most atmospheric place is Belgrade is first of all the touristic street Skadarska which offers a lot of restaurants and a nice atmosphere. A second good option is Knez Mihailova street, the main shopping street. The most impressive historical building is because of the size of the Church of Saint Sava.
Zemun
Next to Belgrade is the village Zemun located. It’s a good trip for half a day but like in Belgrade during a hot day in summer it’s quite. It’s recommended to make a walk next to the Danube and to the Gardoš hill where you can visit the tower. From the hill there’s a beautiful panoramic view over Zemun and the Danube in the direction of Belgrade.
Belgrade is connected by night train to the city Bar in Montenegro. The train departs in the evening and the journey lasts 12 hours. Arrival in Bar is at 8:30 in the morning which gives the whole day to plan some excursions. The train is comfortable and a compartment is the second class needs to be shared by 6 passengers.
