Tbilisi and surroundings
(Georgia)
Tbilisi
A trip to Georgia will start in the capital Tbilisi because this is the home of the country’s main international airport. From this airport, it’s easy to catch a local bus which transfers passengers to the metro. With the metro it’s easy to move within the city an go to the accommodation. In the city there’s enough to see to spend at least two full days.
Tbilisi has a beautiful and well maintained old town but has also modern architecture. Modern for example is the parliament building and a walkway across the Mtkvari river. In the old town, one of the most well-known streets is Rustaveli street. Another good viewing point is Narikala castle. From the castle, a beautiful panoramic view of the city is offered.
Apart from the old town, the city Tbilisi has different old churches and cathedrals and Tsminda cathedral is the most impressive one to give a visit. Good to know is that during summer the temperature can reach about 40 degrees centigrade and the minimum is about 25 degrees. Luckily it’s a climate with dry air.
Mtshketa
A bus trip from bus terminal Didube in Tbilisi brings you to the village Mtshketa which is a perfect tour for half a day. The village offers the Samtavro church and the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and apart from these buildings, there’s an atmospheric centre.
